Unleavened Cornbread

A simple and delicious cornbread recipe perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • cornmeal (1 cup)
  • all-purpose flour (1 cup)
  • white sugar (0.25 cup)
  • salt (1 teaspoon)
  • large egg (1 )
  • shortening, melted (0.25 cup)
  • milk (1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease a 12 cup muffin pan or line with muffin papers.
  2. Stir together cornmeal, flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add egg, shortening, and milk. Stir until well blended. Spoon batter into the prepared muffin cups.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of muffins comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.
