Sausage Stuffing

This classic sausage stuffing, packed with bold flavor and made with simple ingredients, will quickly become a holiday tradition.

Ingredients

  • breakfast sausage (1 pound)
  • melted butter (0.75 cup)
  • finely diced celery (1.5 cups)
  • chopped onion (0.75 cup)
  • white bread cubes (8 cups)
  • poultry seasoning (3 teaspoons)
  • ground black pepper (0.25 teaspoon)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer sausage to a large bowl.
  3. Pour sausage drippings into a measuring cup. Add enough melted butter to make 1 cup. Pour into the skillet over medium heat.
  4. Sauté celery and onions in butter mixture until onion is tender; do not brown.
  5. Stir in 1/3 of the bread cubes.
  6. Transfer mixture to the large bowl with sausage. Add remaining bread cubes, poultry seasoning, and pepper; mix well.
  7. Stuff bread and sausage mixture into the body and neck cavities of turkey; roast turkey as desired.
