Roast Turkey

A simple guide to roasting a perfect turkey for Thanksgiving or any special occasion.

Ingredients

  • whole turkey (1 unit)

Instructions

  1. Remove the packet of giblets from the cavity of the bird and save them for gravy or stuffing. Next, use paper towels to pat dry the bird inside and out.
  2. Tie drumsticks together with string, and brush the skin with melted butter or oil.
  3. Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan, and into a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven. Use the turkey cooking time chart to determine cooking time based on the weight of your turkey.
  4. Roast until the skin is a light golden color, then cover the breast loosely with a foil tent to prevent further browning.
  5. When the turkey is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.
