Pizzelle

Pizzelle are traditional Italian cookies made from butter, flour, sugar, eggs, and pressed into a thin waffle cookie with a beautifully intricate design.

Ingredients

  • butter (1 cup)
  • all-purpose flour (3 cups)
  • sugar (3 cups)
  • eggs (4 eggs)
  • vanilla extract (2 tbsp)
  • baking powder (1 tsp)
  • anise extract (1 tsp)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and anise extract if using.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.
  5. Preheat your pizzelle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Spoon a tablespoon of batter onto the center of each pizzelle mold.
  7. Close the pizzelle maker and bake for about 30-60 seconds, depending on the desired crispiness.
  8. Carefully open the maker and remove the pizzelle with a fork or spatula. Let cool on a wire rack.
