Pennsylvania Dutch Potato Filling
A warm and comforting casserole dish made primarily of potatoes and bread, perfect for holiday meals.
Ingredients
- potato (1 kg)
- white bread (300 grams)
- onion (1 medium)
- celery (2 stalks)
- salt (1 tsp)
- pepper (1 tsp)
- butter (50 grams)
- milk (100 ml)
- egg (2 large)
Instructions
- Boil the peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash them.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, cubed bread, chopped onion, chopped celery, melted butter, warm milk, beaten eggs, and season with salt and pepper.
- Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased casserole dish and spread evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour until heated through and lightly browned on top.
