Pennsylvania Dutch Potato Filling

A warm and comforting casserole dish made primarily of potatoes and bread, perfect for holiday meals.

Ingredients

  • potato (1 kg)
  • white bread (300 grams)
  • onion (1 medium)
  • celery (2 stalks)
  • salt (1 tsp)
  • pepper (1 tsp)
  • butter (50 grams)
  • milk (100 ml)
  • egg (2 large)

Instructions

  1. Boil the peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash them.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).
  3. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, cubed bread, chopped onion, chopped celery, melted butter, warm milk, beaten eggs, and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour until heated through and lightly browned on top.
