Old Fashioned Raisin Pie

A sweet and hearty dessert made with raisins, brown sugar, and spices, encased in a flaky pie crust.

Ingredients

  • raisins (2 cups)
  • water (2 cups)
  • brown sugar (0.5 cup)
  • cornstarch (2 tablespoons)
  • ground cinnamon (0.5 teaspoon)
  • salt (0.25 teaspoon)
  • distilled white vinegar (1 tablespoon)
  • butter (1 tablespoon)
  • double-crust pie pastry (1 (14.1 ounce) package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Combine raisins and water in a small saucepan. Boil 5 minutes.
  3. Mix brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt together; add to hot raisins. Cook and stir until syrup is clear. Remove from heat; stir in vinegar and butter. Cool slightly.
  4. Turn filling into a pastry-lined pie dish. Cover with top crust. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
