Merry Cherry Bars
A delicious treat featuring a buttery base topped with cherries and candy-coated chocolate pieces.
Ingredients
- unsalted butter (1 cup)
- white sugar (1 cup)
- egg (1 )
- almond extract (0.5 teaspoon)
- all-purpose flour (2 cups)
- salt (0.25 teaspoon)
- chopped red and green candied cherries (0.75 cup)
- candy-coated chocolate pieces (0.5 cup)
- sifted confectioners' sugar (1 cup)
- warm water (5 teaspoons)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
- Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and almond extract. Combine flour and salt. Stir into creamed mixture until well blended.
- Mix in 1/2 cup cherries. Press dough into an ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup cherries and top with candy-coated chocolate. Press in lightly.
- Bake in the preheated oven until edges are lightly browned, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool completely before icing.
- Meanwhile, make icing by mixing confectioners' sugar and water until a drizzling consistency is reached. Drizzle evenly over pan.
