Meringue Bones and Ghosts
A spooky Halloween treat made of light and delicious meringue, shaped like bones and ghosts, perfect for the season.
Ingredients
- egg whites (4 large)
- sugar (1 cup)
- cream of tartar (1 tsp)
- vanilla extract (1 tsp)
- chocolate chips (1 oz)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, using a whisk or electric mixer, whip the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, a little at a time, while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
- Add vanilla extract and mix well.
- Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
- Pipe shapes onto the parchment, creating bone and ghost shapes.
- Add chocolate chips for eyes on ghost shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 1-1.5 hours, until the meringues are dry and can be lifted off the parchment easily.
- Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely in the oven before serving.
