Meringue Bones and Ghosts

A spooky Halloween treat made of light and delicious meringue, shaped like bones and ghosts, perfect for the season.

Ingredients

  • egg whites (4 large)
  • sugar (1 cup)
  • cream of tartar (1 tsp)
  • vanilla extract (1 tsp)
  • chocolate chips (1 oz)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, using a whisk or electric mixer, whip the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar, a little at a time, while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
  5. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
  6. Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
  7. Pipe shapes onto the parchment, creating bone and ghost shapes.
  8. Add chocolate chips for eyes on ghost shapes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1-1.5 hours, until the meringues are dry and can be lifted off the parchment easily.
  10. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely in the oven before serving.
