Italian Style Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients
- ripe strawberries (1 quart)
- white sugar (0.33 cup)
- mascarpone cheese (1 (8 ounce) container)
- frozen whipped topping (1 (8 ounce) container)
- prepared angel food cake (1 (10 inch))
Instructions
- Reserve a few pretty strawberry slices for garnish. Add remaining strawberries to a bowl and sprinkle with sugar. Let stand until sugar melts and berries release juices, about 10 minutes.
- Mix mascarpone and whipped topping together in another bowl. Place torn pieces of angel food cake into a trifle dish. Spread strawberries and juice from the bowl over cake pieces. Top with mascarpone mixture. Decorate with reserved strawberry slices. Refrigerate until serving time.
