Ham and Beans

Ingredients

  • dry great Northern beans (0.453592 kilograms)
  • cooked ham (0.226796 kilograms)
  • onion (1 )
  • brown sugar (0.11829 kilograms)
  • dried parsley (15 grams)
  • cayenne pepper (0.25 teaspoon)
  • water (1.419 liters)
  • salt (0 )
  • pepper (0 )

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Rinse beans; transfer to a large stockpot. Cover with cold water and let stand overnight or at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse beans.
  3. Return beans to stockpot; add ham, onion, sugar, parsley, and cayenne pepper. Pour in enough water to cover and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer until beans are tender, adding more water if needed, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
