Elevated Store-Bought Mac and Cheese
A simple way to transform store-bought mac and cheese into a delicious homemade-style dish using a few additional ingredients.
Ingredients
- nutmeg (1 pinch)
- butternut squash purée (2 cup)
- extra-sharp Cheddar (0.5 cup)
- panko (0.25 cup)
- butter (1 tablespoon)
- sage (1 teaspoon)
Instructions
- Pour the contents of two packages of store-bought mac and cheese into a large bowl.
- Mix in a pinch of nutmeg, 2 cups of butternut squash purée, and 1/2 cup of shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese.
- Decide to either heat the mixture in the microwave or bake it in the oven until bubbling and golden brown (about 30 to 40 minutes).
- For the panko topping, mix 1/4 cup of panko, 1 tablespoon melted butter, and 1 teaspoon chopped sage in a bowl.
- Sprinkle the panko mixture over the mac and cheese before baking.
- Bake in a 375°F (190°C) oven until bubbling and golden brown.
