Classic Thanksgiving Turkey

A traditional turkey recipe perfect for Thanksgiving dinner.

Ingredients

  • Turkey (1 whole)
  • Salt (1.5 tsp)
  • Black pepper (1 tsp)
  • Butter (0.5 cup)
  • Onion (1 large)
  • Celery (2 stalks)
  • Carrot (1 )
  • Garlic (4 cloves)
  • Thyme (1 tsp)
  • Rosemary (1 tsp)
  • Sage (1 tsp)
  • Chicken broth (2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. Season the turkey inside and out with salt and black pepper.
  4. In a pan, melt the butter and sauté chopped onion, celery, and carrot until soft.
  5. Add minced garlic and dried herbs; cook for 1-2 minutes more.
  6. Remove pan from heat, and mix in chicken broth; let cool slightly.
  7. Stuff the turkey cavity with the stuffing mixture and tie the legs together.
  8. Place turkey in a roasting pan and cover with foil.
  9. Roast for 2-3 hours until internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  10. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  11. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
