Buttermilk French Toast with Maple Syrup

A delicious and easy recipe for classic French toast served with a homemade maple syrup.

Ingredients

  • eggs (2 )
  • buttermilk (0.75 cup)
  • almond extract (0.5 teaspoon)
  • ground cinnamon (0.25 teaspoon)
  • nutmeg (0.25 teaspoon)
  • Texas toast (4 thick slices)
  • cooking spray (0 )
  • white sugar (1 cup)
  • water (0.5 cup)
  • brown sugar (2 tablespoons)
  • maple-flavored extract (1 teaspoon)
  • vanilla extract (0.25 teaspoon)

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs in a bowl until smooth. Add buttermilk, almond extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg; beat until batter is smooth. Dip bread slices into batter until both sides evenly coated.
  2. Coat a skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium heat. Add bread slices; cook until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
  3. Meanwhile, combine white sugar, water, and brown sugar in a saucepan; bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Off heat, cool syrup 2 minutes. Stir in maple-flavored extract and vanilla extract. Serve syrup over French toast.
