Brined Turkey
A guide to an easy, flavorful brining process for turkey using a 5-gallon bucket.
Ingredients
- kosher salt (0.25 cup)
- coarse sea salt (0.25 cup)
- water (2 gallon)
- ice (1 cup)
Instructions
- In a 5-gallon container, mix 2 cups of kosher salt and 2 gallons of water until the salt is fully dissolved.
- Submerge the turkey in the brine and add more water to ensure the turkey is fully covered if necessary.
- Make sure the brining mixture is kept at or below 40°F by monitoring with a thermometer.
- If necessary, add ice to the bucket to keep the turkey submerged and chilled.
- Brine the turkey for at least 8 hours but no more than 24 hours for best results.
