Brined Turkey

A guide to an easy, flavorful brining process for turkey using a 5-gallon bucket.

Ingredients

  • kosher salt (0.25 cup)
  • coarse sea salt (0.25 cup)
  • water (2 gallon)
  • ice (1 cup)

Instructions

  1. In a 5-gallon container, mix 2 cups of kosher salt and 2 gallons of water until the salt is fully dissolved.
  2. Submerge the turkey in the brine and add more water to ensure the turkey is fully covered if necessary.
  3. Make sure the brining mixture is kept at or below 40°F by monitoring with a thermometer.
  4. If necessary, add ice to the bucket to keep the turkey submerged and chilled.
  5. Brine the turkey for at least 8 hours but no more than 24 hours for best results.
