Barbara's Best Meatloaf

Ingredients

  • milk (240 ml)
  • dry bread crumbs (160 ml)
  • ground beef (680 grams)
  • diced onion (25 ml)
  • egg (1 )
  • salt (5 grams)
  • ground black pepper (0 )
  • ketchup (60 ml)
  • brown sugar (36 grams)
  • ground mustard (5 grams)
  • ground nutmeg (1 grams)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Pour milk over breadcrumbs in a large bowl; soak until crumbs are softened, at least 5 minutes.
  3. Combine ground beef, bread crumb mixture, onion, egg, salt, and black pepper; shape into a loaf and transfer to a baking dish.
  4. Stir ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and nutmeg together in a bowl until smooth; spread over meatloaf.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, about 1 hour. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
